A boutique sales associate's appearance is often the first impression of the store's management to a customer. Sales associates are required to present a physical image that makes them appear trustworthy to customers. For instance, if the boutique store is a high-end clothing store, a sales associate should dress in a way that reflects the image of the store.
A large part of a boutique sales associate's job is to generate sales and to attract repeat customers. The sales associate creates long-term relationships with clients, encouraging them to return to the store and make purchases in the future. Associates keep track of their personal customers in client books. These books list all of the clients, contact information, purchasing history, orders placed and any other pertinent information to make the clients' shopping trips to the boutique more personalized.
